The Future of Austin Toll Roads
The Texas Department of Transportation and the Central Texas Regional
Mobility Authority are working on improvements and additions to our
toll system.
• The Manor Expressway (Hwy 290) is open for 1.5 miles or road from US183 to just east of Springdale in east Austin. Eventually it will be a 6 mile stretch to be completed in 2014.
• There is an environmental study working to determine whether to add 6 tolled lanes on 7 miles of road from Hwy 290 to Hwy 71.
• There is a proposal to do an environmental study to determine the benefit of adding express toll lanes to on US 183 in the grassy median from Loop 1 (MoPac) to RM 620.
• There is a plan to start construction on express lanes on Loop 1 (MoPac) adding 1 tolled lane in each direction from Parmer to Lady Bird Lake in April and this project may take 2 1/2 years.

Austin's Rail System
Gradually, Austin is adding a metro rail system. Information in route, stops and times and can be found at http://www.capmetro.org/metrorail/.
Presently the RedLine MetroRail runs from Cedar Park to downtown Austin. The city is proposing to expand the MetroRail passenger line with a a fixed-car rail that will run from the east Austin development Meuller which is one of the RedLine stops to the Austin Convention Center. With pickups occurring every 10 to 15 minutes, this line would connect downtown, the Capitol Comples and The University of Austin with transfer stops. Look for this proposal in a 2014 bond election with a target up and running date of 2021.
