I'm Protesting. Should You?

Did you get your tax bill estimates in the mail? I did. It's funny that the tax appraisal for the home next-door to me went down and mine went up. What's up with that? I comped my house and it's been accessed at a value with which I can't argue. However, I plan to investigate the proposed values of other neighboring properties to see if mine is higher than the average. I can protest that.

I also manage two other properties which are only blocks from one another and of comparable size. The value of one went down but the other didn't. A comparative market analysis of the home that wasn't reduced will be an appropriate protest.

Last year I blogged about my experiences protesting taxes and several people asked for my assistance. I was happy to help by providing comps for their homes. My only request was that in return they follow up and let me know about their experience and if they were able to get their taxes reduced. None of them did. I'm very proactive so I followed up with them but none returned my calls. what's up with that?
